Making Plymouth Happy

Participants Stories:

Dear Anne,

I am writing to thank you for the difference taking your course has made to our lives! My daughter and I were both reeling from the shock of the break-up of our family and we were unable to look to the future at all. The pain and sadness seemed to overwhelm us and made moving forward very difficult.

The strategies I have learned from the life coaching has helped me be positive and to make plans. This has also helped my daughter, who after just one week, commented that I smile a lot more.

The pain is still there but I am determined that I will not allow the actions of another person to continue to affect our lives in a negative way.

Looking at the past in order to learn lessons and change patterns of thought and behaviour has been a revelation to me.

I can see a positive side to most situations now and regained control of my life (as well as my sense of humour!).

I work with young people in my job, and as a volunteer, so my positive attitude is being passed on!

I would recommend this course to anyone.

Thank you

Yours sincerely,

-Jackie-

I was approached at work by my boss who wanted to sponsor me to go on a workshop/course called ‘Making Plymouth Happy’. I think the reason my boss chose me was because she knows I have done a lot of work on my self and am in recovery for Alcoholism. I was very sceptical at first, but decided to give it a go.

I am very proud of my sobriety and chose not to hide the fact from people. I know there is such a stigma attached to the disease of alcoholism which is very sad and probably one of the main reasons why people affected stay in denial and don’t seek help.

I have grown up in a dysfunctional family, although I normalised it so when I went in to the programme of Alcoholics Anonymous it was a relief to finally see why I was the way I was. I stayed sober for 5 years but drank briefly for two months. Realising I needed to get back on my programme I did immediately and haven’t drunk since.

You may wonder why I am going on about my alcoholism and what has that got to do with ‘Making Plymouth Happy’. Well it has everything to do with it. I started the workshop with the attitude “I know it all!! I was shocked to find that, although a sober and a productive member of society, there was still something missing. Anne & Chris gave me some simple tasks to do. I didn’t find them simple I avoided them. But when I put them into ACTION the results where amazing.

I can only describe it like when I first gave up Alcohol. I felt free. Almost like a new clean person. This is the experience I had with ‘Making Plymouth Happy’. I now understand the reason for my relapse after 5 years. I was still holding on to stuff from my childhood. At that time my parents moved down from London and I did what I always used to do to protect myself from feeling anything I escaped into the bottle.

It hasn’t only worked for me it has made such an enormous difference to my son, Jay who is 10. He has had to deal with such a lot in his short life. Anne gave me positive ACTIONS to take with Jay and the change is just short of a miracle. My stepson is also benefiting because I involve him in talking about his feelings. At work the ripple effect is in full swing. Everybody wants what I have. It is truly infectious.

I am the marketing manager at my work and I said to my boss if people speak about our company like people talk about Anne & Chris and ‘Dreamscatchers’ ‘Making Plymouth Happy’, we are on to a winning formula. A happy work force is a productive work force.

I am getting married next year. I am sober and I am in love with Life thanks to Anne & Chris of ‘Dreamscatchers’ & ‘Making Plymouth Happy’.
